Bistro 17
About This Spot
Bistro 17 unfolds like a quiet Parisian corner brought to life along the gentle edges of Hilton Head Island’s marina. There’s an inviting hush here, where the pace slows just enough for you to savor small, thoughtful moments — the clinking of wine glasses, soft laughter shared over plates that seem to tell their own stories, and a breeze that carries the salt and warmth of the harbor. The setting balances intimacy and lightness seamlessly, offering cozy inside nooks as well as relaxed outdoor seating with a view that warms the soul.
As you settle in, you notice the familiar ease the staff brings, quietly attentive without ever rushing. It’s a space where both a quiet anniversary lunch and a low-key evening toast can unfold with equal grace. The mood is refined without stiffness, a place where you feel genuinely welcomed and at home, perhaps most suited for those who appreciate the art of a slower, more deliberate meal. Children and casual drop-ins might find the pace and menu a touch more thoughtful than typical, but the overall sense is one of care and considered hospitality.
The menu here is an extension of this atmosphere — rich French favorites arrive with warmth and depth, the sort of dishes that encourage lingering conversations and returning visits. Whether it’s a velvety French onion soup warming you from the inside out, or the tender complexity of duck confit and rack of lamb, the flavors feel rooted in tradition but never old-fashioned. Even the simple house salad or a delicate plate of scallops shows the same kind of quiet attention to detail, alongside a drink selection that’s easy to explore, from Prosecco to a carefully crafted Bloody Mary.
Guests often leave feeling the subtle joy of a place where everything is considered — the pace, the flavors, the company, and the views — an experience gently anchored in authenticity rather than spectacle. Whether you’re here to celebrate or simply to slow down, Bistro 17 offers a refined slice of French charm framed by the laid-back elegance of coastal South Carolina.

This place is perfect for the right clientele. It is a cozy French bistro with a refined atmosphere. Relaxed outdoor seating and more intimate inside dining. They serve upscale authentic food. Anyone will feel welcomed by the staff. However, if you have young children or picky eaters...this might not be the best option. I've never had a bad meal and will continue to come back time and time again. Come prepared to have an evening. It's not just food. Share a bottle of wine (or several), enjoy the company, savor the meal, and take a walk under the the marina stars after. You will not regret the time spent at bistro 17.

This is our go to place for excellent food and family celebrations. The staff is top notch. They take care of every detail with a smile. The best high end French Bistro experience on Hilton Head!

Excellent view & service. The food is delicious. We took my parent's for their anniversary lunch. Everything was perfect! We had the shrimp, tuna, & chicken salad, salmon salad, & smoked salmon. We loved everything and are looking forward to returning soon!

Dined outdoor on a Wednesday, did not make reservations. Nice view of the marina. Greeted with bread and butter, cheese, crackers and olives. Reasonable prices. Friendly service variety of food and drinks. They do have cocktails, no cocktail menu, you just have to ask. They have a wine and small beer menu. Handicapped accessible. Parking in Shelter Cove. Bathrooms are not located in restaurant, bathrooms are outside the restaurant in between shops.

They have great food and service here. We ordered the duck liver pate which is good because we shared appetizer together so we shared that. For main dishes, we ordered the sea scallops, chicken salad, crab cake and halibut. They all were very tasty. My favorite was the scallops.

They always have a great selection and the food tastes good. The reason they would lose a star with me is the food is not remarkable and occasionally I've received a plate that was not fully garnished. Certainly not a deal breaker and I will definitely go back.

We went to Bistro for dinner. The bread was fresh and chewy with a good crust. I wonder if it came from the Social Bakery, a favorite place of ours. My crab cakes were just OK, nothing special. The french fries were extraordinary! My wife had grilled red snapper, and it was fantastic. The place is a little pricey, but it has a great atmosphere with views of the harbor. With the exception of the crab cakes, it is a good place for dinner.
